I appreciate how you write not just in critique of the media but also with concrete examples of what they could write instead. I’ve recently made a such a suggestion to a critical journalist here on substack who told me that he doesn’t do activism. I think this is a common misunderstanding among journalists that pointing out what politicians are not doing that they could be doing that would better serve their communities by making those connections you mention is “activism.” Since when did analysis and information become solely the realm of activism? As a media studies scholar, your work has been refreshing for years!

And so many journalists don't think that supporting the status quo is activism! Makes me think of that sarcastic meme about how gamers think - "There are two genders, male and political. There are two races, white and political. There are two sexual orientations, straight and political."

Excellent follow-up to your previous post. I feel like the idea of intentions could take up several posts. I was reminded of The New Jim Crow and how high the bar for legally proving discrimination is because you must prove intent. Same with some campaign finance fraud and who knows how many other things.

I come to your articles pretty skeptical, but this was a persuasive one. At first I couldn't even see why you had a problem, but you made sense.
